Management Evolution: When No Change is the Best Insight !

Through GSEM Non-Profit Executive Education & Self-Leadership Lab, I recently joined a fascinating discussion on the evolution of management. Big topic, right? But here’s the surprising part—there wasn’t any groundbreaking revelation or new revolutionary model. Nothing seismic. And honestly, that felt quite refreshing ?. Sometimes, the absence of radical change can be the best kind of insight.
Curious to hear your thoughts -does “no change” resonate in your world too?

The thought-provoking discussion on different management contracts raised some interesting dilemmas. Here’s my quick take:

1) Hedonism-Security-Progress vs. Acceptance of the Framework: One values employee well-being, stability, and progress. The other leans toward more rigid structures where conformity is key.

2) Autonomy-Initiative-Development vs. Risk of Natural Selection: This promotes autonomy and initiative but comes with the risk of sidelining those who don’t adapt, potentially sparking internal competition.

3) Strong Team Experience vs. Constant Adaptation to the Boss: Team cohesion is a plus, but constant adaptation to a superior’s expectations can create instability and stress.

So, should you choose? Can this evolve? Probably yes to both. But the real key is understanding the current management contract between the stakeholders involved and seeing if there is any alignment behind it.

Here are a few questions that can help frame your choice:
– What are my professional values and those of the organization?
– What’s my preferred management style?
– What kind of work environment suits me best?
– What are the company’s goals?
– What are the employees’ expectations?

Answering these will help find the management contract that best fits your context!
